At the BAFTA Video Game Awards 2011, Chillingo’s Cut the Rope made history, becoming the first iPhone title to scoop one of the Academy’s prestigious gongs.
This cunningly simple and devilishly addictive puzzler was named top handheld game, beating off competition from the like of God of War: Ghost of War on PSP.
And if you haven’t fallen for the charms of the candy-guzzling ‘hero’ Om Nom, now would be a good time to acquaint yourself with him and the 6 million-selling cord slasher.
The Valentine’s Box update to Cut the Rope granted gamers an extra 25 levels and introduced a radical gameplay mechanic for masters of the art to tuck into.
Cut the Rope’s BAFTA trophy will have to battle for space in Chillingo’s overflowing cabinet, given the game’s recent recognition at the GDC Awards and by Pocket Gamer.
"Cut the Rope has been nothing short of a phenomenon on the iOS platform and we're delighted it's been recognised by the British Academy," Chillingo co-GM Chris Byatte said.
