Because We May sale offers huge reductions on hundreds of indie mobile games

A huge selection of highly rated indie titles are currently reduced on the App Store as part of the Because We May sale. In appreciation of Apple's developer-controlled app-pricing policy, a number of indie devs have put some of their most popular games on sale for seven days. With around 240 games currently on offer, we strongly recommend you head over to the Because We May home page and load up your iPhone with some top-drawer mobile titles.

Clear Vision gets free 5-mission reload courtesy of latest update

Insanely popular stickman shooter Clear Vision has just received a DLC reload in the form of a brand-new episode. If you thought that Tyler's tale came to a rather sudden conclusion, then FDG Entertainment's latest update is here to give you a little more bang for your buck. The free episode will contain five more missions filled with touchscreen-sniping shenanigans, offering up more unsuspecting targets for you to capture in your crosshairs.

Fantasy-RPG The Bard's Tale reduced to £1.99/$2.99 on App Store for 2 weeks

Tongue-in-cheek RPG The Bard's Tale has been reduced to £1.99 / $2.99 on the App Store for the next two weeks. Attempting to cram the entirety of this 2004 3D role-playing epic onto an iOS device might seem like an ambitious quest, but inXile decided to have a stab at it, nonetheless. Luckily for the team, the result was a critical success, with reviewers approving of the game's immersive atmosphere, 20-30 hour campaign, and irreverent sense of humour.

Players sinking more hours into pool puzzler Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint than Skyrim

The sibling creators of iOS pool puzzler Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint have revealed that some players are pouring more hours into its modest indie title than they are into Skyrim. Brothers John and Ste Pickford, the duo behind Magnetic Billiards: Blueprint, noticed this startling fact after they added a total playtime leaderboard to their critically acclaimed handheld hit.

Follow the Quality Index on Twitter

If you don't already know, Qi trawls the print and online media for game and app reviews from respected sources like Macworld, TiPb, 148Apps, and GameSpot. A unique Qi formula is then applied to each site and publication to establish a definitive Qi score for the app or game. Top 5 recommendation lists, news round-ups, and regular industry analysis complement the dynamic Qi charts. Qi has its own Twitter feed, too, @qualityindex.

Noteworthy changes to the iPhone Quality Index charts

Soaring straight to the summit of the Qi chart this week is undead endless-flyer Zombie Ace.

Rather than having you fight off shamblers with shotguns and chainsaws (as usual), Hothead Games puts you in charge of your very own Plane of the Dead.

As chief zombie wrangler, you must pilot a number of zombie-filled aircraft over several major US cities, and infect the unsuspecting population below.

If this is all sounding a little bleak, don't worry: there are plenty of laughs to be had along the way. I mean, you haven't lived until you've seen a deadite gnawing gleefully through the wings of a fighter jet.

As Gamezebo's reviewer discovered, Zombie Ace's multi-layered take on the endless-runner genre "really help[s] the game stand out as something unique".

Swinging into the lower regions of the Qi Top 10, meanwhile, is the axis-obsessed driving title Slingshot Racing.

Crescent Moon's inventive reworking of a top-down racing title eschews gyroscopic steering and floating D-pads in favour of a clever one-touch control system.

Instead of guiding your vehicle through the chosen apex with the flick of the steering wheel, you fire a grappling hook from your car to maintain the optimal line. This hook latches onto conveniently placed poles and lets you pivot around tight bends with ease.

Once you get into the *ahem* swing of things, there are 64 increasingly challenging - and beautifully lit - levels to motor around, including the option to compete with up to four other players on one iOS device simultaneously.

Pocket Gamer's reviewer thought Slingshot Racing was a cut above the competition, deeming it "an inventive, accessible, and hugely satisfying arcade racing experience".

Vroooom, vrooom.
