Über-popular social networking and microblogging site Twitter released an official free iPhone app onto Apple’s marketplace in May. In a Twitter blog post recently, the company pronounced the success of its iPhone client, declaring it the fourth most popular way (8 percent of unique users in August) in which account holders log into the service.
The FreeAppADay (FAAD) website has been running since the turn of the year, working with developers to give away previously paid-for apps on a daily basis for your iPhone. Joe Bayen, the brains behind the initiative, decided to launch a free FAAD iPhone app to make the highlighting of these discounted titles even easier. With the promise of freebies proving irresistible to many, the FAAD app has now been downloaded over a million times.
Good news for sports fans out there, as BSkyB has only gone and launched a dedicated Sky Sports News app for iPhone. Free to download, this soccer lover’s dream of an app provides exclusive video content, the brand new Sky Sports News Radio service, and, of course, all the latest stories, scores, tables, and fixtures.
Timed to coincide with the release of her sophomore album, Teenage Dream, Katy Perry has lent her name and tunes to a new Tap Tap Revenge title. 10 of Katy’s most recognisable tracks are available to tap rapidly and skilfully in rhythm to, including ‘California Gurls’ and ‘I Kissed a Girl’. Katy Perry Revenge also features Facebook Connect, allowing high scores to be posted immediately to the popular social networking site.
Notable changes to the Quality Index charts
Alley Lab’s space shooter Meteor Blitz continues to reign supreme at the top of the all-time Qi games chart, fending off the similarly styled Bunz Fighter for one more week.
It could be worth keeping an eye on the fast rising Dark Nebula - Episode 2, 1337 Game Design’s take on the classic ball-tilting genre.

The highest profile entrant this week onto the recent releases top 10 is, appropriately enough, the high flying Spider-Man in Total Mayhem.
Gameloft’s action-packed adaptation of everyone’s favourite web slinging, wisecracking superhero is, according to Slide to Play’s Chris Reed, “a deep game with an incredibly fluid and fun fighting mechanic, that offers something new and different around every corner.”
