Top 5 Tetris-Inspired Block Puzzlers on iPhone
Best ways to form an orderly line on iPhone

We couldn't just name this piece the 'Top 5 Tetris-inspired games on iPhone', for we'd be compelled to include the vast majority of iPhone games in our considerations.
Yep, Tetris has been pretty influential. It's one of those rare games that even non-gamers know about and have probably even enjoyed playing at some point in their lives.
We're zooming in, then, to look at the Top 5 Tetris-inspired block puzzlers on iPhone - those that have taken direct inspiration from the falling blocks classic.
We're back with another of those block dropping treats. Or five of them, to be precise.
Light Byte quite possibly takes as much from the match-three puzzle genre as it does from Tetris, but it deserves its place on this list, nonetheless. As a mass of blocks falls from the top of the screen, you must take out chains of same-coloured blocks. It's more of an aesthetic nod than a gameplay one, but we love it all the same. |

With Dream of Pixels, Dawn of Play does an interesting thing with the Tetris template - it inverts it. Rather than forming falling blocks into solid lines, here you're chipping out the same shapes from a descending mass of blocks. It's a subtle shift, but - combined with some dreamy graphics and blissful music - it's an effective one. |

With Puzzlejuice, Colaboratory takes the Tetris formula and then stretches it to incorporate a compelling word search element. Now when you form lines, they turn into a random jumble of letters. Only by forming words out of these can you get rid of the blocks once and for all. |

Radiangames brilliantly re-engineers the Tetris experience for touchscreen devices in Slydris. Here, the blocks are already settled loosely on the screen, and it's up to you to physically slide them from side to side in order to drop the blocks above into place and form lines. Very clever, indeed. |
