Top 5 Angry Birds Alternatives on iPhone

Best of the Angry Birds-esque games for iPhone

At this point in proceedings, its almost impossible to imagine a world without Angry Birds.

Between its multiple iOS incarnations (Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio), its high-profile partnerships with the likes of Samsung and NASA, and a fast-growing range of toys and other non-gaming products, the Angry Birds empire is one of the biggest on the entertainment landscape.

However, this feathery franchise is not the only physics-based object-flinging game on the mobile market. In acknowledgement of this, we at Qi thought it was time to cast our eagle eyes over the Top 5 Angry Birds alternatives on iPhone.

So, if you've three starred every level and pulverised every pig, there should be something in the list below to keep you occupied - until Angry Birds Space enters the atmosphere, that is.

The success of Angry Birds can be attributed in part to the very human desire to smash stuff up. Dekovir's Amazing Breaker understands this basic need, and caters to it in visceral fashion, lining up all manner of fragile objects for players to reduce to their component atoms. Smashing fun.

If you can get past the gross title and childish obsession with bodily functions, you'll find Snoticles to be an extremely solid interpretation of the artillery puzzler formula. Just make sure you don't pick up any bad habits while you're playing.

If lobbing animals into dangerous environments is your bag, then this fur-filled creature comfort may be just the diversion you're looking for. An enjoyable combination of platforming antics and ball-tossing mechanics, Chillingo's hazardous title just happens to feature a hamster dressed up as Evil Knievel. Enough said.

Based on the Amiga classic Scorched Tanks (which was itself inspired by the grandaddy of the artillery genre Scorched Earth), this retro strategy-shooter from Blitwise reminds us of a simpler time when projectile trajectories were controlled by arrow keys, not touchscreens. Note: touchscreen controls supported.

When it comes to Angry Birds alternatives, they don't come much more controversial than Crush the Castle. The debate as to which developer copied which rages to this day, but there's no denying that, bar a few aesthetic differences, these two games are mutually offensive peas in a rather bitter pod. Worth playing for context alone.
